About Us


Rev. Celestino Gutierrez

Named founding Pastor at St. Jude Parish on May 28, 2006 by Bishop John J. Nevins.

He is a native of Bercimuel in the province of Segovia, Spain where he was educated and ordained on June 24, 1964.

He served as a missionary in Guatemala for 17 years and was assigned to St. Martha’s in Sarasota in 1985.

Father Celestino serves as Director of Spanish Ministry for the Diocese of Venice.

Rev. Piotr W. Zugaj

Rev. Piotr (Peter) was born in Poland on September 28, 1976 as the oldest of four children.

After graduating from Technical High School, he entered the Major Diocesan Seminary in Kielce, Poland. Once he obtained a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology, he transferred to the Polish-American Seminary of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Orchard Lake, Michigan, where he earned a M.Div. and M.A. from the University of Detroit Mercy.

In 2004, the Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, John Nevins, ordained Fr. Piotr to the Priesthood.

Fr. Peter’s past assignments were: San Antonio in Port Charlotte, St. Michael the Archangel on Siesta Key, St. Joseph in Bradenton and Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice.


Rev. Remigious Ssekiranda

Fr. Remigious Ssekiranda (Fr. Remi) was born and raised in Uganda, Africa.

His studies were at the Consolata Missionaries Seminary in Kenya for four years, followed by Theology studies in Madrid, Spain for five years.

Through our Pastor, Fr. Celestino, whom he met in Madrid, he was introduced to Bishop John J. Nevins who later ordained him on September 5, 1998 as part of the Diocese of Venice. Fr. Remi was ten years at Jesus Obrero Parish in Ft. Myers and six years at St. Andrew Parish in Cape Coral.



About Us  

Humberto Alvia

Deacon Humberto was born in Ecuador and later relocated to the Bronx, NY where he attended High School and College.

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years and worked in construction while in New York.

Deacon Humberto and his wife Pia have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

Ordained in 1998 in Brooklyn, NY, he later served at St. Martha’s in Sarasota and has been at St. Jude Church since 2006.

Walt Brady

Deacon Walt has served at St. Jude Church since 2007.

His home base is Brooklyn, NY. He is a graduate of St. John University, he retired from New York Life Insurance Company, and he was ordained at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

Deacon Walt and his wife Dorothy Ann have seven children and 16 grandchildren, and he played professional baseball for the Boston Red Sox.

About Us  

Leonardo Pastore

Born in Domodossola, Italy and raised in Long Island, NY.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a Master’s degree from Barry university.

Deacon Leonardo and his wife Blanca have been married since 1987.

He was ordained on June 4, 2011 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice and has served at St. Jude Church since 2006.

Alison Wilson

A native of England who re-located to the U.S.A. 21 years ago with husband,Jack.

Alison has been Music Director for the English masses at St. Jude since August, 2008.

She studied piano at the London College of Music and organ at the Royal College of  Organist and brings a different dimension to the music with her British heritage.

Fernando Rivera

Fernando L. Rivera was born in Puerto Rico and moved with his family to Sarasota in 1990.

Upon meeting Fr. Celestino at St. Martha’s Church, he offered to help as organist for the Spanish masses.

When St. Jude Church was founded, he continued his volunteer service as the first Music Director for the Spanish masses.

Fernando has been married to Ivelisse for 22 years and they have two children.
